What is up with some high school classes these days? Especially AP Biology and AP US History. (Part 1 of Many)
School started on August 9th 2007 officially for everyone, but for me, I started on my school work before the previous year even ended!
Just so you know, I am an above average (academically wise) Asian American living in Biloxi, MS. I am age 16 and is in 11th grade this year.
My schedule this year at Biloxi High School is as followed:
1st - Visual Arts 3-D
2nd - AP US History
3rd - English III Accelerated (honors or w/e you wanna call it)
4th - AP Biology
5th - Algebra II
6th- Allied Health I
7th - Allied Health I
Lets start the rants...
1st day of school, I walked into the room and said "WTF, what class is this!?!?!?"
someone in the back screamed out "Its ART!, Can't you tell?!"
I sat down and a few minutes later, the eccentric Art teacher came in and just kept going on about her and about how she loves teaching and art and what not.
And well, its obvious that she LOVES art and LOVES teaching and wouldn't trade her job for anything else in the world.
--AP US History--
Wow, what a class. My teacher Mr. Boucher (sp?), is a nice guy who I am pretty sure that he knows what he is doing.
Before the school ended the previous year, he wanted us to read Uncle Tom's Cabin, write a 2 page summary, and a 1 page critique. I somehow avoided reading the book; instead, I read like 10 different online summaries and derived my summary outa this. The 1 page critique? Well, I kinda just BSed through the whole thing.
First day of school, we had a pop quiz on uncle tom's cabin. Boy, 20 questions, and I made a 93. Which is pretty good considering the two other people that did better than me read the book. Needless to say, everyone else failed the test.
First 3 days of school, he spends it telling us about all the work we are going to be doing. This leaves me to ask "Where is all the work?"
Next week, it appears that we have to read a chapter, outline it, do a crossword, a review sheet, and a test. Not bad... OR IS IT!
The chapters are usually around 50 pages long. The textbook is a college level book and appearas to be written in "big boy" dialect so it is somewhat difficult the understand. Our outline? Atleast 5 pages long. Mine was 7.
Crossword and Review are simple enough made a 73 on the review tho.
oh yeah and we had memorize all 50 states, capitals, continents, and oceans. That was fairly easy.
My test, I made a 90 ^__^. YAY ME!
Oh god, boy should I have not asked that...
That is it for this blog post, as school is about to end and I get to go home!
